Hispanic Heritage: Rita Moreno

NYSUT celebrates Hispanic Heritage Month with a new poster honoring Rita Moreno, an actress, dancer, and singer whose stage and screen career spans over seven decades. Moreno is one of only 18 EGOT award winners — performers who have received Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony Awards — and one of only 24 to achieve the Triple Crown of Acting, winning Academy, Emmy and Tony Awards.

A 'force' for good: communities rally in a day of action for public education

The 'Force' was with the state and nation’s public schools Thursday, as teachers, parents and concerned community members from the North Country to Long Island and from Buffalo to Rotterdam gathered en masse to protect public education.

A National Day of Action to #ReclaimOurSchools

We have seen before what can be accomplished when our members, working with parents and the community, stand together to protect what’s right. That same level of local, grassroots advocacy is needed Jan. 19.

Remembering Sonia Basko: 'An advocate for everything that mattered'

The education and labor communities, along with family, friends and students, mourn the death of NYSUT staff member Sonia Basko, a revered teacher and respected union and social justice activist. While in treatment for cancer, Sonia became ill with pneumonia and died on Dec. 29.
