NYSUT celebrates Black History Month
— February — with a poster highlighting
the work of Rev. Dr. William J. Barber II,
president of the North Carolina NAACP and organizer of the Forward Together
Moral Monday Movement.
Barber launched the movement in 2013 using non-violent
civil disobedience to oppose regressive policies in North Carolina.
Moral Mondays spread nationally and, in 2015, Barber joined NYSUT leaders,
members and coalition partners at the New York State Capitol to highlight inequality
in education.
He recently authored
The Third Reconstruction: Moral
Mondays, Fusion Politics and the Rise of
a New Justice Movement, a 2016 book
chronicling the movement.
