Matt Erickson, an elementary school librarian at William E. Deluca Elementary School in North Babylon, instills a love of reading in his young students by day. On his own time, he feverishly writes his own novels and short stories for readers to enjoy.
Erickson’s first novel, “International Harvester,” was recently released and is selling very well in print and as an e-book. Based partially on human remains found along Long Island’s Ocean Parkway, the work is a serial-killer thriller, which bypasses excessive gore and violence to examine abnormal psychology. Its heart pounding pace, true-to-life dialogue, descriptive depth, meticulous research and vivid characterization have many readers comparing the new author to James Patterson.
Erickson is seizing the opportunity to capitalize on sales to assist those still in need due to Superstorm Sandy. He’s currently scheduling charity book signings at restaurants and bars across Long Island to raise funds for victims all along the south shore. At each book signing, 100 percent of the author royalties for every book sold is being donated directly to victims severely affected by the storm.
