At their September 2017 meeting, the Board of Regents adopted the P-12 New York State Next Generation Learning Standards for English language arts (ELA) and Mathematics.
The NYS Next Generation Mathematics Learning Standards (2017) define what students should understand and be able to do as a result of their study of mathematics. The New York State Next Generation Mathematics Standards (Revised 2017) consist of moving standards to different grade levels, clarification, adding, deleting, and consolidating standards to improve coherence, focus and reduce redundancy among grade levels. The rigor of the standards was maintained by balancing the need for conceptual understanding, procedural skills and application.
