The United States City Average Consumer Price Index (CPI-U) for September 2020 was 260.280 — representing a change of 1.4 percent over the index for September 2019.

The Northeast Area Consumer Price Index for September 2020 was 273.925— representing a change of 1.2 percent over the index for September 2019.

The New York-Northern New Jersey Area Consumer Price Index for September 2020 was 284.551— representing a change of 1.9 percent over the index for September 2019.

The October CPI will be available November 12, 2020.

Future projections of the CPI by businesses and economic organizations are found in the complete document. CPI increases are projected at 1.2 percent for 2020 and 2.0 percent for 2021.
