The New York State and Local Employees' Retirement System (ERS) uses social media as a way to keep you current on important retirement news.
Twitter (www.twitter.com/nyslrs) and Facebook (www.facebook.com/NYSLRS) offer quick tips and updates on a variety of retirement topics and ERS news. These sites present another way for you to interact with your retirement system directly and to ask questions. As an ERS member, there's a good chance you know other members and retirees. If you find information on Facebook and Twitter that interests you, please be sure to share it with your ERS friends.
You might also consider subscribing to our blog, New York Retirement News, at www.nyretirementnews.com.
Weekly blog posts cover need-to-know information for ERS members and retirees. Longtime members getting closer to retirement will find step-by-step tips and checklists to feel more confident and fully prepared when that retirement date finally arrives. New members who barely give retirement a second thought will learn about the milestones, benefit details and long-range planning that goes into making that distant day a reachable reality. Signing up is easy.
From the New York Retirement News page, just enter your email address in the right-hand column and click "subscribe."
When you follow ERS on social media, you'll be among the first to know when new legislation may affect you. In June, our social media followers found out right away about a law passed allowing more members to receive retirement credit for their military service. In September, legislation extended the deadline to file a notice for World Trade Center disability benefits, and again, we let our members know quickly through social media.
The information you find on our social media sites is up-to-date and easy to read. For detailed Web presentations, forms and other in-depth information about your benefits, visit the ERS home page at www.osc.state.ny.us/retire/index.php.
