At the direction of the officers, NYSUT is launching a new program to encourage NYSUT retirees to contact the union with their email and other contact information.
"This is part of an ongoing effort to organize and mobilize for the upcoming elections, for the 2013 legislative session and beyond," said NYSUT Vice President Kathleen Donahue. "Our retirees are one of our union's greatest assets."
The plan will allow the union and the retiree council presidents to communicate with retirees faster and more efficiently. "With the issues we are facing in Washington, D.C., and Albany, we need to be able to communicate with and mobilize our members quickly," said David Golden, RC 10 president. "We are grateful to the officers for supporting this critical new retiree program."
NYSUT will collect, maintain and safeguard the actual data. A Listserv will be established for retiree council presidents to use to communicate directly with members, as well as to provide training and guidelines outlining best practices.
All retirees who submit their information will be entered in monthly drawings to win NYSUT-branded items. The NYSUT officers strongly encourage all NYSUT retirees to register for this important effort as soon as possible.
