You know those students who pour their passion into writing? Who could use a little more individual attention? The New York State Young Writers Summer Institute may be for them. The one-week writing intensive program offered through the Writers Institute at the University of Albany is seeking students who are interested in writing poetry, fiction, nonfiction or screenplays. The deadline to apply is April 1; students must be entering 10th, 11th or 12th grade in 2012.
Full and partial scholarships are available for this year's program, which takes place July 1-7 at Skidmore College in Saratoga Springs. The institute provides small group writing classes in different genres during the day, editing sessions, and evening readings by internationally known authors. Each student will write a piece for an anthology. For more information, go to www.albany.edu/writers-inst and click on "programs," then "New York State Summer Young Writers Institute."
