NYSUT's advocacy for education was honored last month by the prestigious Schott Foundation for Public Education, a philanthropic organization that supports efforts to ensure that all students have access to a high-quality public education.
The union was selected for the Hot Schott Education Advocacy Award "because of your commitment and leadership as a powerful advocate for equity and excellence in New York's public education system," wrote Schott Foundation CEO John Jackson in a letter to NYSUT President Dick Iannuzzi.
"We would especially like to celebrate the invaluable contributions of NYSUT members and your collaborative partnerships with the Alliance for Quality Education, parents and community members in building a movement for equity and adequate funding in the state," Jackson wrote.
