The U.S. Department of Education this month is expected to announce how it will disburse $3.4 billion in the second round of Race to the Top awards.
New York's finalist team, which included State Education Commissioner David Steiner and Senior Deputy Commissioner John King, Regents Chancellor Merryl Tisch, New York City Education Chancellor Joel Klein and UFT President Michael Mulgrew, made its final presentation to USDOE last month.
NYSUT is working with SED on the expectations for the final scope of work that must be completed within 90 days if a grant is awarded. Should New York win an RTTT grant, NYSUT will have materials ready to assist locals with this process.
New York is competing against 17 other states and the District of Columbia.
