NYSUT members who've been displaced from their jobs can stay abreast of important changes in law that could impact their health coverage by visiting the union's Career Center website at www.nysut.org.
Lawmakers routinely revise and update the program known as COBRA, which provides workers with a continuation of benefits once their employment ends. Any change made to COBRA is posted immediately on the NYSUT Career Center site.
Recent posts include revisions made to COBRA that extend the period of continuing coverage to small-group plans with fewer than 20 workers, and information on what to do if you aren't sure when your 15-month premium subsidy ends.
The new posts — part of NYSUT's ongoing effort to keep its members informed — can be found under the Career Center's "Latest" news link, as well as under the link for NYSUT's Handbook for Laid-Off and Retrenched Employees.
