BUFFALO, N.Y. Feb. 5, 2019 — Union members from around Western New York will picket Tuesday, Feb. 5, outside of New Era’s downtown Buffalo headquarters to protest the company’s plans to shutter its Derby production facility.
Members of the Western New York Area Labor Federation will join with Erie County Executive Mark Poloncarz and others to show solidarity with the hundreds of hard-working union men and women who would lose their jobs if the Derby factory is closed down this March. The picket will take place from 4:30 to 6 p.m. outside of New Era’s headquarters at 160 Delaware Ave. in Buffalo.
The picket is the first in a series of planned weekly actions outside of New Era’s headquarters. It is the latest event of the #NewEraHatsOff campaign calling out New Era for choosing profits over people as the company plans to cut nearly 200 union jobs in Derby in favor of exploiting underpaid non-union workers in the deep south.
