ALBANY, N.Y. Oct. 17, 2017 — New York State United Teachers today called out Westchester County Executive Rob Astorino for a baseless and misleading attack mailer against state Sen. George Latimer — one that also improperly uses the union’s logo.

NYSUT President Andy Pallotta said: “As senator, George Latimer has been a fearless champion for students and teachers, and a relentless fighter for more funding for public schools in Westchester County and across the state. Any suggestion to the contrary is political nonsense.”

Pallotta said Astorino’s campaign did not have permission to use NYSUT’s logo in its mailer and said it misrepresents the union’s partnership with Latimer on a myriad of issues. For example, NYSUT endorsed Latimer’s re-election in 2016 based on his exemplary record of support for public education.

New York State United Teachers is a statewide union with more than 600,000 members in education, human services and health care. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
