Praised as “the real deal” and “a true-blue union man,” Paul Farfaglia was unanimously endorsed by NYSUT delegates Saturday for re-election to the New York State Teachers Retirement System board.
Farfaglia, a Jordan-Elbridge School District teacher for more than 30 years and long-time local union president, has served NYSUT in numerous capacities, including chairing the union’s Pension and Retirement Committee.
Terms on the TRS board are three years.
Jolene DiBrango, president of the Pittsford District Teachers Association and a TRS board member, called Farfaglia someone who is “always prepared.”
“He is professional, engaged and always available,” she said. “He is a leader on the board.”
Tim Southerton, a NYSUT Board member, said he considers Farfaglia the “point of the spear” in the effort to ensure public employee pensions are protected in the event of a constitutional convention.
“We need his experience,” said Southern, himself a TRS board member.
