ALBANY, N.Y. Sept. 28, 2015 — New York State United Teachers today released the following statement:
"The task force's mission to address parents' and teachers' valid concerns is fundamental to moving forward. Without question, Common Core implementation was botched. Without question, tests and evaluations must not be a punitive system of 'gotcha.' Clearly, an overhaul is needed. We welcome the opportunity to continue to work to resolve these issues through the governor's task force. We will be unyielding in our efforts to achieve meaningful reforms. Is this a breakthrough? That will only be determined when meaningful reforms are made to this broken system."
New York State United Teachers is a statewide union with more than 600,000 members in education, human services and health care. NYSUT is affiliated with the American Federation of Teachers, the National Education Association and the AFL-CIO.
