Rona Freiser of the United Federation of Teachers and Sandra Bliss of Retiree Council 12 saluted those who helped them achieve after receiving the “Not For Ourselves Alone:” The Sandy Feldman Outstanding Leadership Award.
“We don’t do it alone,” said Bliss, RC 12 vice president and a former NYSUT Board member. “I did it with my local union members, the Utica regional office, NYSUT staff and many others who have lit the flame in my personal journey. Thank you.”
Freiser, the UFT’s Queens borough representative and a member of the NYSUT Board and the UFT Executive Board, said after thanking the delegates, “I accept this award on behalf of myself and … the amazing members of the UFT who have brought me here today.”
Named in honor of Sandy Feldman, the former American Federation of Teachers and UFT president who succumbed to breast cancer in 2005, the award recognizes the contributions of women to the education union movement.
Debbie Kydon, Rockland BOCES TA, received the $2,000 Sandy Feldman Leadership Grant, awarded to further the development of a promising female union leader.
