Buffalo Am-Pol Eagle: Stan Nowak - 2012 Citizen of Year - Labor

He may be retired now, but Stan Nowak's work hasn't ended just yet. After teaching in the Buffalo Public School District for 33 years, Nowak became the first elected president of the New York State United Teachers (NYSUT) Retiree Council No. 44 last year. For his determination and organization skills in the labor movement, he has been named the Citizen of the Year for Labor.

“My initial reaction was a big 'wow,'” said Nowak. “I felt honored that the staff of the Am-Pol Eagle found me worthy to receive the award. The award is also a tribute to the Retiree Council No. 44 and the work we do for all retirees at the local, state and national levels.”
