The following radio ad opposing the recent tax cap proposal began airing statewide the week of June 9, 2008.
Transcript
"When it comes to New York public schools, we all have a lot to be proud of.
"Test scores are up and more students are meeting higher standards than ever before.
"But a disastrous property tax cap proposal from Governor Paterson threatens to roll back progress in our schools.
"Governor Paterson's arbitrary tax cap is a one-size-fits-all approach for districts that would erode local decision making and worsen the achievement gap.
"It should be up to the voters in each local school district to decide what's best for their schools.
"And in May, New Yorkers overwhelmingly supported local control by voting "Yes" on 93 percent of school budgets.
"We all want to reduce the property tax burden.
"But let's do it in a way that doesn't hurt our kids.
"Don't let Governor Paterson cap their future.
"Don't let Albany take away local control."
