State Latino Caucus announces scholarship winners

Source:  NYSUT News Wire

Ten New York Latino students will have an easier time paying for college this fall thanks to the generosity of the New York state chapter of the American Federation of Teachers Latino Caucus. The state Latino Caucus recently announced its Latino Scholarship recipients for 2007, who will share $20,000 in total scholarship money given by the group.

Several NYSUT members participate in the state Latino Caucus, which is associated with the AFT, one of NYSUT's national affiliates. The state Latino Caucus is chaired by NYSUT Board member Jose Vargas of the United Federation of Teachers, NYSUT's K-12 affiliate in New York City. NYSUT Vice President Maria Neira is member emeritus of the group's executive board.
