People for the American Way

Need more info on voucher schemes? People For the American Way has consistently opposed school vouchers and tuition tax credit programs that divert scarce education funding away from public schools. They offer a wealth of information about vouchers on their Web site, including these topics:

  • Public Opinion on Vouchers
A recent poll conducted by National School Boards Association/Zogby International, found that likely voters oppose vouchers 49 percent to 47 percent. But going deeper, nearly half of those who support vouchers would prefer to improve the public schools if given a choice.
  • Private School Vouchers
Despite attempts to frequently mislead the public and "sell" vouchers as a panacea for low-income children, the public overwhelmingly supports improving public education over voucher and tuition tax credit programs.
  • Existing Voucher and Tuition Tax-Credit Programs
A series of reports examining such programs in key states and cities explores how vouchers and tuition tax credit programs undermine public education, cost taxpayers millions of dollars, disproportionately benefit some families over others, and lack basic academic and fiscal accountability.
  • Follow the Money
A listing of the individuals and groups with a close network of allies with the same ideological bent, all of whom work to discredit public education, while promoting practices, strategies and legislation that foster privatization in education.
