About the Mathematics Institute

Mathematics education in New York State has undergone a major change this past year. The seven key ideas have been replaced with process strands and content strands Pre-K-12. The NYSUT Mathematics Institute is designed to assist mathematics teachers in grades 5-8 to understand these changes and how they will affect classroom instruction. The sessions will present proven strategies on how to incorporate the new mathematics requirements into classroom activities. The registration fee is $95.

Session topics include:

  • Strategies to improve instruction
  • Teaching algebra and geometry at the middle level
  • Using hand-held technology in the middle level mathematics classroom

Who should attend?

  • Mathematics teachers grades 5-8
  • AIS teachers
  • Middle level teachers
  • Special education teachers
  • English language learners (ELL) teachers
