SRP Recognition Day

SRP Recognition Day: Our Work Makes Schools Run

SRP Recognition Day is Nov. 18, 2025, in New York State. It is a well-deserved honor for the hard-working women and men who help educate, feed and transport students, monitor their health, administer school offices, and maintain school facilities — providing a safe and nurturing environment for student-centered learning.

SRPs Rise to the Challenge, making a difference in our schools, workplaces and communities, every single day.

Celebration ideas

There are many ways to celebrate! Use your creativity and remember to make sure every SRP is included in your efforts, including those that work later shifts or in different buildings. Here are some ideas to get you started:

  • Send a letter to the editor of your local newspaper to let your community know about the work your SRP members do and how they play an integral role in a student’s school day
  • Start the day off with a hearty breakfast for your SRPs
  • Have students write thank you notes and letters to your SRPs for all the work they do.
  • In some schools teachers trade lunchtime duties with aides and monitors for the day.
  • Celebrate the day by giving back to your community. Sponsor a food drive for your local pantry and encourage your members to help.
  • Many districts, teachers and/or PTAs sponsor luncheons for the SRPs.
  • Some districts and locals create entertaining videos or slideshows to thank SRPs

About SRP Recognition Day

Did you know that New York State SRP Recognition Day is the direct result of advocacy by NYSUT members? NYSUT-backed legislation, made possible through the extensive lobbying by NYSUT staff and members, resulted in a permanent SRP Recognition Day in New York. It is celebrated annually on the third Tuesday in November. This year’s date is Nov. 18.
