Applications for the 2005-06 New York State Mentor Teacher-Internship Program (MTIP), a competitive grant program, are now available. The MTIP is a state grant that will enable local school districts and BOCES to develop and implement a mentoring program. The programs must be jointly implemented by the union and local district. There continues to be ten percent release time required from the instructional day for both mentor and intern. During the 2004-05 school year, $6 million in funding went to 66 school districts.

Districts with one or more SURR schools and/or Schools In Need of Improvement are encouraged to apply. Applications for continuing awards must be postmarked by June 18, 2005 and for NEW applications by July 1, 2005. NYSUT's Division of Research and Educational Services serves as the research arm of NYSUT, providing information and assistance to Field Services, to other NYSUT divisions, and to local leaders. In addition, the Division provides a variety of information and workshops to local leaders and to local member organizations.
