Ed Tech Grants Announced April 2004 The New York State Education Department has announced the three-year grant awards for the Title II, Part D, No Child Left Behind (NCLB), Enhancing Education Through Technology competitive grant program. A total of $50 million in the first full year of funding has been awarded to 46 local educational agencies across New York State under this federal grant program, which targets students in high need school districts that have been identified as schools in need of improvement. These dollars will support improved student achievement in mathematics (PreK-12) and/or English language arts (PreK-12) with a particular focus on early literacy (PreK-3) through the effective integration of education technologies into curriculum and instructional practices. Local leaders should be aware that grantees must use at least 25 percent of the award funds to provide ongoing, sustained and intensive high-quality professional development in the integration of advanced technologies into curricula and instruction and in using those technologies to create new learning environments. Efforts should be made to ensure that these professional development activities are integrated with the local Professional Development Plan (PDP) that is developed with the participation of the teachers’ collective bargaining unit. See http://www.emsc.nysed.gov for a listing of grant awardees. |
