Every Spring and Fall the Hartford Faculty Association retirees have a luncheon. At the Spring luncheon a collection is taken and given to the HFA to be presented as an award, at graduation, to a student who has persevered in achieving his or her goal to graduate.
This is one way to continue a positive connection between the retirees and the active teachers as well as the district and its students. All the retirees seem to enjoy contributing to this award.
Maizie Morse, Ambassador, in the Aug.-Sept.'06 RC10 Newsletter

Last year, the Cohoes Retired Teachers and Staff group used its surplus dues money to award a $200 scholarship to a graduating senior who had decided to go into the field of education. The intention is to make this a yearly award and to increase the amount each year, if possible. In years past, $5 dues had been collected from the retired teaching staff only. For next year and in the future, the retired support staff agreed that they would also like to contribute. In this way, the group hopes to continue the award for years to come.
Michele Nigriny, Co-President, Cohoes Retired Teachers
and Staff, 8-24-06

Daniel Boone (with tie and beard) has been serving on NYSUT's Retiree Advisory Committee for the 2005-2008 term. Dan is one of Retiree Council 10's NYSUT Delegates.

"NYSUT Vice President Kathleen Donahue is a co-chair, along with Irwin Yellowitz. Donahue oversees the Retiree Services program as well as all of NYSUT Program Services as part of her officer responsibilties.

The role of the RAC is to advise the NYSUT Board of Directors, officers and staff on retiree issues. Over the years, the committee has varied in size from eight to 17 members and typically meets four to five times a year, with NYSUT staff attending. Chief among the RAC's responsibilities is to keep apprised of retiree organizing, political, financial, pension, health care and member benefits and to be advocates for the concerns of constituent leaders and members."
