Task Force Report: Calls for more SRP training, participation, representation
Continuing actions to broaden the role of School-Related Personnel in the statewide union, RA delegates adopted a NYSUT task force report on the support staff who are the most rapidly growing part of the union.
The task force, chaired by Sandra Carner of the Saratoga Adirondack BOCES EA and Shelvy Young-Abrams of the UFT, found the union already has introduced many pro-active measures to boost SRP involvement, including a policy of having SRP representation on all NYSUT committees; and an annual statewide SRP conference.
Delegates had already adopted one of the recommendations on Friday, when they changed the union's constitution to provide greater flexibility in setting the dues structure to expand the union's organizing reach.
The report had an additional 20 recommendations, most of which called for more training and information to be provided to SRP members and local affiliates.
