New York State United Teachers takes the time at each convention to celebrate the successes of its members.

Awards recognize the contributions of: Stephen Bongiovi of the United Teachers of Seaford, state Teacher of the Year; Maria Portalatin of the United Federation of Teachers, School-Related Professionals Member of the Year; Margaret Tomko of Retiree Council 17 and Lionel Knight of the UFT, Retiree Members of the Year; John Hyland, Professional Staff Congress and Phillip Smith, United University Professions, Higher Education Members of the Year; Ann O'Hara, Syracuse Teachers Association, Health Care Professionals Member of the Year.

Delegates will also acknowledge the Life Line honor roll; members who received National Board Certification; and this year's Community Service Award winners and New York Teacher Journalism Contest winners.
