Tributes and elections on agenda
Welcome to the 2005 NYSUT RA
April 7, 2005
NYSUT's 33rd annual Representative Assembly will pay heartfelt tribute to union pioneers and take a huge leap into the union's future.
The agenda includes a historic tribute to NYSUT President Tom Hobart, elections of officers and board members, 145 proposed resolutions, and a host of VIPs, including Sandra Feldman (pictured), former president of the American Federation of Teachers.
There are two changes from the printed program. Senate Majority Leader Joseph Bruno had to cancel his appearance Friday due to the death of State Sen. Patricia McGee, R-Cattaraugus, and U.S. Sen. Chuck Schumer will speak at Friday morning's session.
Feldman, a NYSUT board member emerita and former president of the United Federation of Teachers, on Friday will receive the Albert Shanker Award for Distinguished Service. Feldman, who is battling cancer, stepped down as AFT president last year.
U.S. Sen. Hillary Clinton will be one of the VIPs joining delegates and guests for NYSUT's Friday evening celebration saluting Hobart, who has led the union since its creation 33 years ago.
Everyone must have a badge and a ticket for admittance to the celebration. Guest tickets must be purchased in advance for $75 each. Please be patient, especially in the registration area - record crowds are expected.
