Delegates took time out from convention business on Friday to honor four women unionists for contributions to NYSUT and the larger communities they serve.

Recognized with the "Not for Ourselves Alone" Outstanding Leadership Award were Jane Kauffman of the Williamsville TA and the UFT's Ann Kessler for decades of service in many different capacities to their local and state unions.

Lorna Arrington of United University Professions was named the Higher Education Member of the Year and Anne Goldman of the UFT's Federation of Nurses and Health Professionals, the Health Care Professionals Member of the Year.

Summing up the sentiments of the award recipients, Goldman told delegates: "The difference we make is because of our union voice."
