'Unsung hero' grants available

April 8, 2005

ING's "Unsung Heroes" awards honor the creativity and dedication of educators with fresh new ideas. The company has awarded $240,000 in grants to teachers, educators, paras and other SRPs each year since 1995.

"When resources are short, we seek these grants to help make new programs possible," said Maria Neira, NYSUT vice president. "And education's unsung heroes should be recognized."

It's a simple process for any teacher who needs money for a new classroom initiative. The application is straightforward. Checks are made out to the teacher and his or her school. Award winners can use the money in any way they see fit to further their projects.

The deadline is April 30. To learn more about the projects and initiatives that have been honored in past years, or to get an application, go to www.ing.com/unsungheroes .
