The Negotiations Team met with the District's team on February 26,2007. We still have a number of issues to be resolved through the negotiations process, but the focus of this session was on salary. We would hope to continue our work on this issue at the next session and come to a fair and equitable settlement with the district.
2/2/07 - BUILDING LEVEL NEGOTIATIONS UPDATE MEETINGS WILL BE HELD ON THE FOLLOWING DATES:
2/6 - Momot Elementary
2/8 - Stafford Middle School
2/12 - Bailey/Oak Elementary at Bailey
2/13 - Plattsburgh High School
All meetings will begin at 3:45 pm. If you are unable to attend the meeting in your home building, please feel free to attend at another location.

The Negotiations Team continues to work towards a successor agreement to the contract that expired in June. We have made progress on a number of areas, but still have difficult issues to settle with the District. During the month of January we will be meeting with the District Team on January 2, 8 and 22 in addition to our own team meetings.

When we began the negotiations process months ago, one of the first orders of business is to come to agreement on ground rules to guide the process. As in the past, part of that agreement is that negotiations will be strictly confidential for nine months (after six months we may notify the District that we will no longer abide by this agreement). During the past two weeks we have had the opportunity to meet with both the Executive Committee and the RA. It was felt by both of those bodies that a letter to you would be the best avenue of communication at this time.
Your Negotiations Team has met numerous times as a team and with the District’s Team. We continue to move forward on a number of issues, but it seems clear that this round of negotiations will take longer to reach settlement than in the recent past. There are a number of difficult issues on the table, and we continue to work hard for an equitable settlement for both you and our school district.
We thank you in advance for your continued patience and support.

Your Negotiations Team has met a number of times with the District Negotiations Team and continues to work towards completing a successful agreement to our recently expired contract. We have two upcoming meetings with the District on September 25th and 26th. As soon as possible after those dates we will be holding a meeting for all Association members to outline the District's proposals and the current status of negotions.
3/30/06
On March 28th members from the Negotiations Team met informally with members of the Board of Education's team. It was an opportunity for the PTA to share concepts that we have been discussing for some time, and allowed for good discussions with all those present at the meeting. We look forward to hearing back from the BOE team and meeting with them again in the near future.
2/7/06
The Negotiations Team has met numerous times during the past month to discuss and create a proposal for upcoming negotiations with the District. The focus of our meetings has been to prioritize and clarify the issues that were brought to us by the membership during our visits to individual buildings. We anticipate that face-to-face negotiations with the District will begin in the upcoming weeks.
1/9/06
Thank you to everyone that took time to complete and return the Negotiation's Survey that was distributed in early December. The information we received gives the Negotiation’s Team direction and focus as we prepare for upcoming negotiations.
We have now begun to meet with members in each building. These meetings are a critical part of the process, as it gives us a chance to hear from the membership directly. This week (1/3/06) we met at Oak Street and Bailey Avenue Elementary Schools and attendance at the meetings was excellent. The discussions gave us insight into the issues that were most pressing in each of those buildings.
The team will continue with meetings next week (1/9/06) at SMS on Monday, PHS on Tuesday and Momot on Wednesday. PTA members in these buildings should plan to attend, it's important that we hear from you.

As I'm sure you are aware, our contract with the Plattsburgh City School District expires on June 30, 2006. We will open negotiations with the District around February 15, 2006.
It is our intention to settle on a contract that is fair and equitable for both the district and our members, before the current contract expires. In preparatoin for negotiations, we ask that you take time to fill out, and return, the surveys you were given. Prior to negotiations, the Negotiations Team will be scheduling visits at each building to discuss negotiation items with members.
