April 27, 2006 Their caseloads are huge, but their dedication is greater. Counselors from every borough in New York City devoted a precious Saturday to sharpen their skills at the United Federation of Teachers' second annual conference for school counselors. "You accomplish so much with such little support from the Department of Education," said UFT president Randi Weingarten. "Your caseloads are heavy; many of you work in isolation, without a computer, in limited space and without staff development." Stone emphasized that counselors' work can be measurably demonstrated to lead to student success. |
