College courses, professional development now just a mouse click away

new education & learning trust web page

March 30, 2006

Taking undergraduate, graduate and professional development courses just got easier, thanks to a new Internet search and registration site being offered by NYSUT's Education & Learning Trust.

In early March, ELT launched a new site that lets NYSUT members find and register for courses being offered in every region of the state and even via distance learning.

ELT, the continuing education arm of New York State United Teachers, has partnerships with leading colleges and universities throughout the state that allow NYSUT members to save time and money while pursuing degrees.

The new site, which can be accessed 24 hours a day at www.nysut.org/elt, allows visitors to search ELT's course offerings, obtain course and workshop descriptions, and register for courses.

The new site also features a secure area for individuals who are currently taking or have taken courses with ELT. In this secure area, students can access their current schedules; print their course histories to document completion of mandated professional development hours; register for courses; pay balances online; see if grades have been posted; and communicate online with their instructors and classmates.

ELT Manager Rosemarie Rosen said the new site will make it easier for NYSUT members to complete degrees and to earn continuing education credits to meet state requirements or for salary increases.

"NYSUT members have overwhelmingly said that they want their continuing education and professional development options to be as convenient as possible," Rosen said. "With our new Web site, ELT is bringing educational opportunities right to members' desktops."
