NYSUT Vice President Kathleen Donahue talks with Troy elementary school children about games in their class that encourage healthy snacks.

In the year since New York State United Teachers unveiled a student-nutrition program to thousands of elementary school children, students have taken countless steps toward a healthier lifestyle.

The program, 24/7 Let's Go!, aims to get young students to take seven positive steps a day and track their progress by earning stickers to be placed on a chart.

Developed by the statewide union's Health Care Professionals Council, the program is targeted for use in a school setting, by classroom and physical education teachers, school nurses and health care professionals to encourage kids to build healthier habits and to combat childhood obesity.

For more on the program, see the union Web site at www.nysut.org/247.
