Samplers offered for test of English as a Second Language April 14, 2005 Test samplers are available online for the New York State English as a Second Language Achievement Test, which schools will begin administering this month. All Limited English Proficient students in grades K-12 must take the test even if they have taken or will be taking the grade 4 or 8 English Language Arts test or the Regents Exam in English. Schools can administer the speaking section of the four-part NYSESLAT between April 25 and May 20. The remaining sections — listening, reading and writing — must be given during three separate sessions between May 9 and May 20. Teachers must give the speaking section to individual students apart from other students. Listening, reading and writing sections are given in classes or groups. Test samplers and directions are available at www.emsc.nysed.gov/osa/nyseslat/home.shtml. The five samplers cover grades K-1, 2-4, 5-6, 7-8 and 9-12. |
