Raising money to curb AIDS April 7, 2004 NYSUT is a committed ally in the AIDS in Africa Project, an American Federation of Teachers initiative. The project trains teachers in Kenya, South Africa and Zimbabwe to educate other teachers about curbing the spread of AIDS. New York State United Teachers President Tom Hobart on Saturday urged RA delegates to buy AFT AIDS in Africa pins, with proceeds going to the cause. The AFT Black Caucus/New York State Chapter, chaired by Leroy Barr of the United Federation of Teachers has led by example, already raising more than $11,000 through pin sales for the campaign. Hobart also recognized two locals for their outstanding efforts in the AFT initiative:
