School psychologist wins national honor

wreath

December 3, 2003

Members of the New York State Association of School Psychologists confer with John Kelly, a member of Commack Teachers Association, who has been named school psychologist of the year by the National Association of School Psychologists. From left: Nancy Evangelista, NYASP president; Erin Smith-Hill, Cohoes TA; Kelly; and Kirsten Eidle-Barkman, Guilderland TA. He was honored, in part, for his work in Anti-Violence Initiative Day on Long Island and efforts with the association to spread the program statewide. Following the 2001 attack on the World Trade Center, he helped children express fears and anxieties and direct their energies into positive action, including a CD compilation of poems and writings about the Sept. 11 tragedy.
