Vote today for your hero!
NYSUT is well represented in this year's Everyday Hero contest, sponsored by the American Federation of Teachers, one of NYSUT's national affiliates.
In the teacher division:
Martin Messner is nominated for leading his local, the Schoharie Teachers Association, and coordinating massive efforts to help rebuild Schoharie after it was devastated by record floods last August.
In the higher education division:
Mary Ann Borrello of the Faculty Association of Suffolk Community College raises funds and awareness for a variety of needy programs all year round.
Steven Mesik of the Herkimer County Community College Professional Association makes it possible for children at the Casa Hogar Rafaela de la Pasion de Veintemilla orphanage in Quito, Ecuador, to go to college.
In the retiree division:
Joe Satriano of the Roslyn Teachers Assocation turned heartache into a helping hand when he started the Susan Satriano Foundation in 2006.
Here's what you can do right now! Visit www.aft.org/everydayheroes/ and vote for your Everyday Hero in each division. The semifinalist who gets the most votes in each division will be named a 2012 Everyday Hero and will be honored at this summer's AFT convention in Detroit.
