NYSUT Vice President Catalina Fortino spoke to Capitol Pressroom's Susan Arbetter today to explain why the union is calling on the Regents to "stop the insanity" of the broken system for testing and evaluations.
"We're asking the Regents to vote 'no' on the state's June emergency regulations," says Fortino, "and to propose changes to those regulations to provide immediate relief from the state's wide use of the 'growth model' and other unsupported evaluation practices."
"We're adding our voices to the [many] parents who are saying stop the damaging overtesting of students and stop the unfair system of evaluation that reduces students and teachers to a single number."
Added Arbetter: "Somebody said to me the other day that it was like judging a person's entire health by just their cholesterol level."
Exactly.
