By issuing a teaching credential, New York State certifies that the holder has satisfied the degree, coursework, assessment, and experience/internship requirements established by the Regulations of the Commissioner of Education.

There are three major categories of "Teaching Certificates for Public School Service" established by Part 7 of the Rules of the New York State Board of Regents:

     a. Administrative and supervisory
     b. Classroom teaching
     c. School service (e.g., counselors, psychologists)

Part 7 also provides for a Certificate of Qualification which is used in all the major categories.
