Report Form Division of Legislation UPDATE: August 2004
Is your local's lobbying report due? For reporting purposes, the term "lobbying" means ANY attempt to influence the passage or defeat of any state or local law (in municipalities over 50,000), rate making, rule, and/or regulation. (Please note that expenditures made in connection with school budget votes or school board or county legislative elections are not lobbying expenses.) FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS Who must submit the report? Any local president, treasurer or other officer acting on behalf of the local who makes an expenditure or expenditures to influence the passage or defeat of any state or local law should advise NYSUT of such expenditure(s) before the report due date (see "When" below). What has to be reported? Each local lobbying expense must be itemized and must clearly detail: (1) to whom or what the expense was paid, (2) the date the expense was made, (3) the purpose of the expense and (4) the amount of each expense. Please remember to include your name and a contact number in case there are additional questions. When are reports due? Local lobbying expenses made must be reported according to the following schedule:
