The State of the Health Care Workforce 2001 [order]
AFT Healthcare's indispensable almanac that collects in one place publicly available data on health care workers and the industry in which they work. The book contains startling figures: real wages for RNs have dropped from $817 in 1993 to $790 in 2000 despite the nursing shortage; an additional 450,000 more nurses will be needed by the year 2008; and enrollment in nursing schools has declined steadily in every region of the country, falling 2.1 percent in 2000 alone.
