Workers' Compensation Even though many people try to make workplaces safe and healthful, each day thousands of workers become sick or hurt because of their jobs. When this happens, workers can be stuck with big medical bills and no income. Workers' compensation is meant to take away some of that hardship. Workers' compensation pays medical bills and replaces some of the lost income for people hurt on the job. If you are injured, the first place to call is your union. If you have a current claim and want to know what's happening, contact your compensation lawyer, if you have one, or call the workers' compensation office nearest you.
