Who is the GTA?

Links 		      The work of the GTA is often handled by smaller groups of dedicated individuals who contribute to a specific subject or area of service.  Reporting to the GTA Representative Council, Committees handle much of the business of our local union.

Standing Committees:

  • Membership - this committee is in charge of maintaining our membership records for NYSUT so we're billed properly for dues and so that members can get pertinent info from NYSUT. Chair: Nancy Clum-Dolan
     
  • Grievance - handles grievance processing and oversees contractual questions.  Chair: Chris Claus
     
  • Negotiations - this committee handles contract negotiations. 
    Chairpersons: Chris Claus & Larry Tuxbury
    Current members: Patty DelNegro, Maceo Dubose & Jacalyn Stein
     
  • New Member/Mentor - welcomes new faculty to the district by providing mentoring support. Chair: Patty Del Negro
     
  • Retirees - This committee reports on the interests of retired members. Current Retiree Rep. is JoAnne York.
     
  • Teachers' Retirement System - the GTA elects delegates to the Teachers' Retirement System.  Current Delegates: Kris Culotti, Joanne Maier, Mickey Young, (Jim Dillon) 
     
  • Springfest - plans and organizes our highly anticipated annual retirement event in the spring. Chair: Kim Drake
     
  • Web Page: Kara Winchester

    Other Committees
     
  • Health Benefits Review - each bargaining unit is represented at meetings of the health benefits review committee.  Current Members: Donna Abbruzzese, Barb Horan, Ronni Liegeot, Robin Michaels
     
  • Heart's Desire - a grant program for professional development. Chair: Amy Salamone
     
  • VOTE/COPE - coordinates and organizes our local drive.  Current chair is Diana Vaughn.
     
  • ED10 Delegates - this is our delegation to ED10 meetings (our NYSUT election region) and the NYSUT Representative Assembly.  Current delegates: Fran Hurwit, Elma Sprague, Yvette Terplak, Diana Vaughn and Chris Claus
     
  • Committee of 100 - NYSUT group that is dedicated to lobbying at the State Capitol. Delegate: Chris Claus & Diana Vaughn
     
  • Teacher Recognition - plans and organizes our service recognition reception held during the main open meeting of the membership in the fall. Chair: Barb Horan
     
  • Nurses - Nurses are a group of unit members within the GTA and are covered by the teachers' contract.  Current representative is Beth Karam
     
  • Teaching Assistants - TA's have an umbrella unit within the GTA.  Current president is Wendy Mastoras.
