The NYSUT Education and Learning Trust has partnered with renowned authors in the field of teacher leadership especially Charlotte Danielson and Rick Stiggins to develop a sequence of courses that equip teachers to extend their professional expertise to schools, districts, and communities.

The Teacher Leadership Certificate Program is designed for teachers who want to apply their knowledge and skill to the larger school community yet may not want to leave their classrooms to do so.

The sequence of 3-credit courses includes:

Lead Teacher: A Framework for Teacher Leadership

Assessment Of and For Learning

Mentoring and Coaching in the Midst of Change

Tools for Teacher Leadership: Analysis and Decision Making

Tools for Teacher Leadership: Building Communication and Teamwork

Seminar in Educational Research for the Practitioner.

The Teacher Leadership program is offered in partnership with Adelphi University.

The first course in the sequence, Lead Teacher: A Framework for Teacher Leadership, was developed in partnership with Charlotte Danielson and is being offered at sites around New York beginning in the summer 2006 semester.

The course is scheduled to be offered in the following locations this summer:

Buffalo, NY: August 19-23
Capital District: May 6-28 (Saturdays and Sundays)
Endicott, NY: June 28-30, July 5-6
Half Hollow Hills, NY: June 6 – July 12 (days TBD)
North Syracuse, NY: July 26 – August 1
Nyack/N. Rockland: July 10-14 or July 24-28
Suffolk County: June 28-30, July 6-7

The remaining courses will be offered in successive semesters.
