| NYSUT and Stony Brook University Master's Degree Partnership Programs update: March 1, 2006 The NYSUT Education and Learning Trust has partnered with the School of Professional Development at Stony Brook University to offer the University’s Master of Arts in Liberal Studies (MALS) program. The MALS program is acceptable as a functionally-relevant master's degree that may be used to achieve professional certification through the New York State Education Department. NYSUT members first must complete no more than six of the required 33 program credits as approved through the NYSUT Effective Teaching Program (ETP). ETP courses are offered at various locations throughout New York at current ETP tuition rates. The remaining credits are completed online at the State University of New York’s (SUNY) tuition rate (view tuition rates at www.stonybrook.edu/bursar). NYSUT members must successfully complete up to six credits through ETP (minimum grade of B) prior to application for matriculation into Stony Brook's MALS program. Upon application to the program, the matriculation fee will be waived for qualifying NYSUT members and other standard university fees may also be waived depending on student status. Current Stony Brook matriculated students are not eligible to participate in this program. This program will accept new admits beginning with the Spring 2006 term.
