NYSUT and Mercy College
Master's Degree Partnership Programs

REVISED PROGRAMS for the Lower and Mid-Hudson Valley Region beginning SUMMER 2006

The NYSUT Education and Learning Trust and Mercy College offer graduate programs leading to the Master of Science in Education degree at a significant savings for NYSUT members. Teachers may pursue a master's degree in Childhood Education Grades 1-6, Middle Childhood Education Grades 5-9, Adolescence Education Grades 7-12, or Teaching Literacy.

Mercy College has revised its programs to meet changed certification requirements. The programs included in the NYSUT-ELT partnership are designed for NYSUT members who currently hold a valid teaching certificate and who need a master's degree to fulfill professional (or permanent) certification requirements.

Program participants complete 15 credits through the Trust's Effective Teaching Program (ETP) with a minimum grade requirement of 'B', and then apply for matriculation into one of the programs listed above. The current tuition for ETP courses is $595 per three-credit course. The remaining credits offered at one of the college's registered campuses are offered at a one-third discount from the current college tuition rate.

EDUC 607: Education Law
EDUC 654: Behavior Mgmt Applications

The Teaching Literacy program has not changed as it already complies with the new certification requirements.

NOTE: The NYSUT/Mercy College partnership program outlined in previous brochures is not being offered beyond the summer 2006 semester in the Mid-Hudson Valley region. No new students will be accepted into old programs in the spring 2006 semester in the Lower and Mid-Hudson Valley region.


Mercy College , New York City Region

The NYSUT Education and Learning Trust existing partnership with Mercy College – Bronx and Mercy College - Manhattan continues as in prior semesters. The Trust offers 15 graduate education credits that may be applied toward a Mercy College master's degree. Remaining program coursework is completed at the college's Bronx or Manhattan campus at discounted rates.

The Teaching Literacy program will be available to NYSUT/UFT members at the Bronx campus in the summer 2006 semester.
